Former Hawaii SPJ President dies

David Briscoe, former president of the Hawaii chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, has died in Kapolei, according to The Associated Press.

Briscoe, 82, was the AP bureau chief in Manila during the peaceful people revolution led by Corazon Aquino against then-President Ferdinand Marcos and also served as bureau chief for AP in Honolulu.

He has been a board member, treasurer and president of the Hawaii Professional Chapter of SPJ.

Briscoe was a supporter of the chapter's popular Gridiron Show that raised money for journalism internships and the internship program and helped to organize the chapter's journalism contest.
