JOB POSTING: Interactive Developer

Honolulu Civil Beat is looking to hire an innovative and versatile front-end designer/developer to help our talented team of investigative journalists explain complex stories in a creative and engaging way.

We're looking for someone with a passion for great journalism to help build our digital storytelling effort both on and off-platform in conjunction with our small multimedia team and engagement editors.

Our interactive developers work on a wide variety of projects, from months-long immersive experiences to data visualization and smaller reusable elements that enhance our everyday articles. We'd also love to see you pitch and report your own stories when the right idea strikes.

Our ideal candidate should have at least 3 to 5 years experience designing digital stories in a journalistic context and be up to date with the latest web trends, techniques and technologies. You should have strong visual and interactive design skills - a clear grasp of typography, layout, color, motion and behavior. Your portfolio should demonstrate extensive experience with web development technologies, innovative storytelling techniques and UX.

Specifically:
" Skilled at front-end coding with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
" Ability to conceive, design, develop, and deploy web components to our Wordpress applications.
" Ability to work closely with the reporters and quickly translate concepts into components.
" Some experience with PHP and Wordpress development would be very helpful.
" Ideally some experience with front-end tools like sass, node, gulp, and Timber/Twig.
" Comfortable with git and AWS.
